Diamond Atomic Bow Review

Diamond Atomic Bow Review

This Diamond Atomic Bow Review is for the youth model only.   That being said, this is a great bow for beginners.  Especially younger children who have a short draw length and will need a smaller weight.  This is the ideal type of bow for that.  You can read the rest of the review below.

The pros

This bow is filled with lots of good things going for it.  It’s taken the youth model and scaled it down just a bit more for the younger and smaller crowd.  This means that you’ll have a well-balanced and real bow for when your child is ready to have the real thing.  The construction quality is good.

This is a sturdy bow that’s easy to change weight with.  I’d easily recommend this to anyone who is looking for quality in a bow.  It’s mostly setup on arrival with just the quick easy adjustments needed to make sure everything is attached right and the bow is set to the draw length and weight that you want.  That all takes about 10-20 minutes and then you’re ready to go.

The cons

This is a more expensive bow and it does have better parts.  The biggest con that I’ve found is the bow sight.  You can be gentle with it and it should do fine for a while.  I’d also mention that this bow is pretty high quality so you need to make sure that this is something your child is interested in before you go spending the money.  If they like archery, then this bow is a great choice.  If it’s a passing fad, you might want to try something a little cheaper to see if they’re actually interested or not.

The maximum draw length is 24″ which will probably be the limiting factor in how long you can use the bow.  I’d recommend taking a bit to find out your child’s draw length and making sure that there is a little room to grow before getting this bow.  The length is all relative to the size of your child so I can’t give you an exact number on anything.

It’s priced around $195-220 on Amazon.  As always, I recommend reading all the reviews there and any other websites you find to make sure that you are getting the best item for you.

Diamond Infinite Edge Review

Diamond Infinite Edge Review

The Diamond Infinite Edge is a compound bow that’s set up to cover a wide range of shooters from very young to adults.  Now let’s be clear up front.  I’m talking about the compound bow package, not just the bow by itself.  I’ll do my best to be balanced and don’t forget that this bow sells for about $350, so this is a complete bow set up for a very good price.  Arrows not included.

Let’s get down to it.

Bow specifications

  • Axle to Axle – 31″
  • Brace Height – 7″
  • Weight – 3.1 lbs
  • Draw weight – 5-70 lbs
  • Draw length – 13″ – 30″
  • Let off – approximately 75%

What’s included

  • Three pin Apex bow sight
  • Hostage XL arrow rest
  • Octane Deadlock Lite Attachable quiver
  • Tube peep sight
  • BCY D-loop

Not included

  • arrows
  • trigger release
  • bow case
  • target

Special notes

  • This is the Ready to Shoot Package version.
  • Easily adjusted with Allen wrenches
  • Comes in right and left hand options, depending on where you buy.

The pros

The pros for this bow really shine when you see how big a variety you can get.  This bow can be adjusted for a huge range of shooters and the fact that you can also adjust the draw weight in such a large-scale means that you can use the same bow for several years, several people, and use the same bow for all of them.

The bow is light, smooth, and delivers a good solid shot.  Make sure that you tune it properly or go have it tuned to make sure that it’s set right.  Don’t forget to inspect your bow at purchase or on arrival to make sure it doesn’t have any defects.  There are some left hand models out there of this bow, just double-check when you’re buying.

The cons

The cons for this bow are going to be the same problem that most bow packages have.  The accessories are good, but most of the effort goes into the bow itself and that means that the add-ons can suffer.  I don’t feel like they suffered that much though. The arrow rest isn’t as durable as I like, but it should last several months of use and you’ll be able to decide what to replace it with in that time frame.  The bow sight is a pretty standard 3 pin sight that does a good job as is.  You’ll only really need to change that if you want something better.

I would add some dampeners or a stabilizer to reduce shock and help with your aim.  The bow is a little back heavy, so the stabilizer would do the most good.

All in all, you’ll find that for the price range around $350, it’s a complete shooting system that can be adjusted and still give you a great winning combination for less than $500.

Barnett Vortex Review

Barnett Vortex Review

The Barnett Vortex is a youth bow that provides a “real compound bow” that also gives you room to grow and adjust for your needs. Having a compound bow that can grow and adjust to a young archer is a challenge, but I believe the Barnett Vortex is an excellent bow to fill that need.  The problem with a compound bow is that you must have it specifically fitted to one person.  This personal fitting is how you get the let off advantage from a compound bow.

Barnett Vortex Youth Compound Bow Package

The Barnett Vortex is that happy medium that lets you tune the bow to an individual archer.  You can adjust it to fit a variety of archers.

Bow specifications

  • Draw weight – 19-45 lbs
  • Draw length – 22″ – 27″
  • Let off of 60-70%

What’s included

  • The bow
  • 3 aluminum arrows
  • Arrow Rest
  • 3 Pin Sight
  • 3 arrow quiver

Not included

  • Arm guard
  • Targets

Special notes

  • Right handed use
  • Camo pattern finish

The pros

This bow is a huge improvement from a “toy bow.”  This is the real thing! The bow is solidly made to ATA/AMO standards and provides a great amount of let off which is the purpose for getting a compound in the first place.  You can get some serious performance on a budget.  You do get everything you need to start shooting immediately.  The only thing you’ll need to do is adjust the sights if you choose to use them.

The cons

As with most beginner bows, the bow itself is the strong point.  The weak points are with the accessories.  You should consider getting more arrows from the beginning.  This goes with all archers though.  I highly recommend carbon arrows as they are much sturdier.  The arrow rest can also be replaced if you want.

The only other thing you need to know is that the bow is adjustable, but you can’t get all draw weights at all draw lengths.  The smaller the draw length, the lower the weight.  The idea is that a person with a longer draw length will be able to handle a higher draw weight.

Barnett Vortex Youth Compound Bow Package

Overall, this is a great bow that will last you multiple years.  Priced around $130-160, you’ll get a great deal.

The Lil Banshee Bow Review

The Lil Banshee Bow Review

Getting kids into archery is a lot of fun and most adults learn a thing or two.  This is a great beginner bow for young kids and will let them get started having fun right away.  All you need to do is put things together and off you go.

To be clear, I’m talking about the Barnett Lil Banshee Jr. Compound Bow.  This is a fun little bow that is well made and good for young children.

So getting down to business.  You want to get a good little bow for your child.  At $28-30, you end up with a small compound that is very durable and probably the best choice for someone looking to get started.  As a compound, it helps make the bow easier to pull back and you have an adjustable draw length so it works well for different size children.

I believe that children aged 7-12 should be able to use this bow, but that depends on the child.  You can take the handle and flip it upside down to make it work for the left hand.  For the price, you really can’t get a better bow for starting your kid in archery and it’s better than spending a couple hundred bucks before finding out if they really like archery and want to keep doing it.

Tips to make things way better

Buy extra arrows when you get this.  It’s the number one thing everyone ends up getting.  You might as well save yourself some time and get them from the beginning.  The Barnett Outdoors Junior Arrows (3 Pack) are a good choice for this bow.

Try my printable targets to keep your kids excited and having more fun.  You’ll make them want to go outside instead of playing on a cell phone.  They can go hunting, do target practice, or go zombie hunting.

PSE Sinister Review RTS Package

PSE Sinister Review RTS Package

First off, I love bow names.  The Sinister just makes me happy.   Don’t let the name fool you.  For a ready to shoot package, this beast not only gives you super performance, but you’re going to get a much lighter and smaller bow that makes it easier to take anywhere and that is what makes it Sinister.

This bow shoots fast, quiet, and it’s deadly.  Here is the Amazon link so you can check it out yourself.

Special notes

There are several Pros for this bow.  The first is that this bow is smaller than many other bows.  The second is that it’s lighter than other bows.  These two things make it great for taking it into to tree stands, long hikes, or thick brush areas.  You can adjust your own setting with just an Allen wrench.  The PSE Sinister has 10 different notch settings for you to choose.

The ready to shoot package takes so many things out of your mind.  It comes ready to shoot, you just need the arrows and something to shoot at.  The Aries sight is a 3 pin sight with fiber optic strands to help catch light.  You get a Mongoose 6 arrow quiver that mounts to the bow.  The bow sling is really handy for making sure you don’t drop your bow.  The nock loop is for your trigger release that you use.  It really comes ready to shoot which is great!

PSE Sinister Ready to Shoot Package

There are a few cons that you should know about as well.  First, the bow has a bit of a strong cam cycle that might take a bit of getting used to.  It does have a 75% let off once you get drawn back all the way.  The peep sight isn’t the best and it might need to be replaced after a short time.  That’s about it for the negatives.

The price can vary a lot for this bow.  The one that I’ve linked to is a ready to shoot package.  If you already have all the other accessories, then check out getting just the bow.  It’s a great bow no matter what and I’m sure you’ll like it.

As always, I recommend you take it to a bow shop after you get it just to make sure everything is good to go.

Crosman Elkhorn Jr. Compound Bow Review

Crosman Elkhorn Jr. Compound Bow Review

  • 2 arrows

Not included

Special notes

  • Consider getting extra accessories when you buy.

First off, I put this bow in the group that every child goes through.  They don’t want a toy anymore, but they aren’t ready for a full-fledged compound bow.  This is the perfect bow for that category.  With a light draw weight, it works well for most kids 9-13 depending on the child.  It does come with everything to shoot out of the box.  Assembly IS required.

I’m going to break this into two parts: the bow itself and the accessories.

The bow is a good value and rugged enough to stand up to a fair amount of abuse.  The cable string with the bow is made for no maintenance which makes it very reliable, but not easy to put a peep sight on.

The accessories are going to work okay for the younger crowd.  You’ll probably want to get some extra arrows and consider some small upgrades as the bow gets used.  It does fit the young archer very well.

The price is around $50 and you might spend an extra few dollars on arrows when you get it.  For that price, you’re getting a really good deal.

The Crosman Elkhorn Jr. Compound Bow review is brought to you by me, all words are my own.  I don’t endorse any specific product, yet, and I didn’t receive this or any product for any kind of reimbursement.
